The Lake Michigan Basin is one of Wisconsin’s
most treasured and heavily used resources. The watershed is an
essential component of the economic and cultural identity of our
region, as well as supporting a unique and impressive array of
biological diversity. As the region grows, how do we care for this
great resource on which our quality of life depends?
The Lake Michigan
Shorelands Alliance hosted the Great
Lake Gatherings in fall 2008 to ensure that we all work
together to preserve this beautiful land along the shoreline for
future generations. These four community forums brought together
more than 450 local business owners, government officials, community
leaders, landowners and other citizens to tackle the complex challenges
facing the watershed.
The Gatherings took place in key communities
along Lake Michigan:
• Green
Bay: September 16, UW-Green
Bay
• Sheboygan: October
1, John Michael Kohler
Art Center
• Mequon:
October 8, Mequon Nature Preserve
• Milwaukee:
October 15, Milwaukee Art Museum
Thank you to everyone that joined us at the Great
Lake Gatherings. We look forward to working with you to keep the
Great Lake's future bright!
