Purchase of Development Rights

Just as the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund helps land trusts in Wisconsin protect wild and natural places, Gathering Waters believes there should be a statewide program to help landowners protect the working farms that are central to Wisconsin's heritage.

A Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program is designed to protect operating farms to keep Wisconsin farmers farming.

While no state-wide program yet exists, progress is being made, and several local governments are working to protect farmland in their communities.
