Parks, open spaces, trails, and greenways have
a variety of economic impacts on their surroundings. In particular,
it has been shown that environmental corridors, trails and other
passive-use parks increase the value of homes adjacent to those
green spaces. Municipalities that include parks and other green
spaces consistently attract and retain businesses, because their
employees seek those amenities. On a local scale, parks and trails
often spur small business development to serve people who use those
natural areas.
