The demand for informed legal advisors to land
trusts and landowners is increasing. Land trusts are the fastest-growing
segment of the conservation community, and their activities are
changing the landscape of conservation, estate planning and charitable
giving nation-wide. In Wisconsin, over fifty land trusts are working
with more than 45,000 members to protect natural resources on private
property. Landowners working with land trusts can realize long term
conservation goals for their property and may receive tax benefits
in the process. Recent Federal scrutiny of charitable contribution
deductions and a call within the land trust community for credentialed
practices are creating a fast-changing legal climate; a climate
in which knowledgeable advisors are invaluable.
