Primary Responsibilities

  • Helps to bolster support for state, federal, and local policies that are beneficial to land trusts
  • Represents land trusts’ concerns in the rule-making process defining access requirements on land protected through the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program
  • Tracks state and federal activity that may influence private land conservation in Wisconsin

Past Jobs & Experience

Mike was in school in Madison for the five years before he came to Gathering Waters. During the summer and fall of 2007, he split his time volunteering for Gathering Waters and the River Alliance of Wisconsin. At Gathering Waters, he helped with the Stewardship re-authorization effort, and for the River Alliance, he represented the organization in a contested case involving the Winter Dam in Sawyer County, WI. His other professional experiences have included: a summer associate position at Garvey, McNeil, and McGillivray; an internship in the Environmental Protection Unit at the Wisconsin Department of Justice; and an internship in Governor Doyle's office, among others.
